Orange Empire Conference play started, and the same old story played for the women’s soccer team.

The Gauchos were shut out 5-0 by Santiago Canyon College, last year’s OEC champions.

The Hawks quickly scored just 18 minutes into match, when Jessica Olsen served a ball to Sara Foley who scored the goal. Later on Foley would get an assist on an Olsen goal. Stacey Cervantes also scored for the Hawks, who later scored in the second half. Goalkeepers Marissa Ghani and Cassie Becker combined in the shut out of the Gauchos.

The Hawks are now 5-0-1 on the season.

Saddleback’s goalie Kim Goupille had eight saves for the Gauchos in the first half. With four minutes remaining in the game, she collided with a Hawk attacker and left the game under her own strength.

The Gauchos were outshot in the game 22-2. Saddleback was shut out again last Friday at Cypress College 3-0.

The Gauchos now have a 1-5-1 record overall and a 0-2 OEC record.

The Gauchos will play Fullerton at the Rancho Capistrano fields at 3 p.m.
