Gauchos ride the current to fourth place finish at surfing competition

The Saddleback surfing team placed fourth in the National Scholastic Surfing Association, Southwest Conference’s first event of the season at Blacks Beach, San Diego.

The Gauchos finished fourth out of 25 competing colleges with 102 points, trailing only San Diego State University’s Black team (113), University of California, San Diego’s A team (125), and Mira Costa’s Red team (165).

Shaw Kobayashi led the Gauchos finishing first individually in the men’s shortboard competition. Dennis White managed to make it to the semi-finals in the men’s longboard competition, but was unable to advance.

The next competition takes place Nov. 18 at Seaside Reef, Cardiff by the Sea. There will be two more competitions between then and the State Championships which will be held Mar. 8-10, 2013 at Huntington Beach.
