IVC welcomes international collegiate debate teams from China

Irvine Valley College will host its eleventh in a series of international debates on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at 7 p.m in the Performing Arts Center. This demonstration will involve teams from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Xi’an International Studies University, Saddleback College, and Irvine Valley College. 

The Irvine Valley College Debate Team has a long history of international debate exchange programs with universities in the People’s Republic of China.  This will be the fifth time IVC has hosted Chinese teams on this campus.  Additionally, IVC have sent 70 students to China on debate demonstrations, study abroad programs, and debate competitions.

“We will continue our proud tradition with a debate demonstration involving US and Chinese students," said Gary Rybold, director of forensics and the U.S. tour coordinator. "It should be a fine educational evening for debaters and the audience alike.”

The timely topic for the evening’s debate will be: Environmental protection is less important during times of economic crisis.
 
The international debate demonstration is sponsored by the IVC Foundation and Associated Students of IVC.   Admission is free.  Parking can be purchased for $2.00 in the parking vending machines in the lot next to the Performing Arts Center.
