Saddleback women's volleyball opened league play with a loss to defending state champs Orange Coast College Friday night, 30-17, 30-17, 30-14

The game, which was played at Irvine Valley College because the situation with Saddleback's gym has not been resolved, was a classic scenario in the world of amateur sports, God given talent vs. heart.

The Gauchos, clearly up against a more talented team, left everything on the court trying to dethrone the defending champs, but unfortunately came up short in their efforts.

The team will use the loss as a learning experience as they move on in league play. Coach Carmen Stratton, not planning to make any specific changes this week in practice hopes to keep the team focused.

"We will keep plugging away in practice and focus on doing what my assistant
coach and I have trained them to do," said Stratton, "keeping our focus on ball control: passing, defense and serving."

Saddleback looks to bounce back at Santa Ana Wednesday night.
