Women's golf opens conference play

Saddleback and Irvine Valley took to Riverview Golf Course Wednesday in the Orange Empire Conference opening match.
Led by sophomore Courtney Schroeder, the Lasers went 2-1 on the day, finishing with a total of 348; Saddleback finished 0-3 with 368.
On the par 71 course, Schroeder finished with 82, tying for forth best of the match.
Lasers Valerie Watts tapped in at 85, followed by freshmen Alex Calvillo (89) and Katie Parks (92). Team captain Ashley Silver capped off IVC's scoring with 94.
On Saddleback's end, Karolyne Crowe and Connie Gonzalex led the way with 86 each, followed by Brittany Ruble (95), Korri Broadhead (101) and Heather Odarrow (103).
Conference favorite Santiago Canyon finished with three wins and a team total of 348. Santa Ana went 1-2 on the day.
Saddleback and IVC will meet again on the course Wednesday when they face each other in a conference match at Oak Creek Golf Course. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
