Columnist and Author of "Orange County: A Personal History", Gustavo Arellano, will be a Guest speaker at Saddleback College on Nov., 3, from 12 p.m. to 1p.m. in room 212 of the Student Services Center.

The Anthropology and Cross-Cultural Studies group will be presenting the speaker who will be talking about his book.

An Orange County native, Arellano completed his Masters at UCLA after attending Chapman College. Born in Anaheim to a tomato canner and an illegal immigrant Arellano attended schools in Santa Ana as well.

"He is as close to homegrown as it gets," said Ana Maria Cobos, librarian and committee member of Cross Cultural studies at Saddleback College.
She observed Arellano while he was speaking at Fullerton library in September.

"I really thought Community College Students would benefit from listening to him, he's entertaining and informative," Cobos said. "He's funny.  He makes you laugh, and you learn something."

Arellano is familiar with events and history and what's going on in Orange County, he has been a food critic for OC Weekly with snippets on each city, of the best places to eat, said Cobos of the speaker.

Arellano's column titled "Ask a Mexican", which runs in OC Weekly, won the 2006 Association of Alternative Newsweeklies Award. He also contributes to other media in the area such as The Los Angeles Times and has appeared on various shows, such as, "Today," "Nightline," "The Situation with Tucker Carlson," and "The Colbert Report."
