The Saddleback College women's volleyball team returned home after four matches on the road and lost to San Diego Mesa in four games last Wednesday.

The first three games were tight, but the Knights jumped off and had six consecutive points to win the fourth game and the match.

Melissa Chavez led the Gauchos, with 13 kills. Rachel Talufus had 23 digs.

Last Friday, the Gauchos lost to Orange Coast College.

Chavez had eight kills and Talafus had 15 digs. Morgan Kavanaugh had seven solo blocks.

"Small steps forward, we're disappointed with the loss but we're moving forward in the right direction," Saddleback coach Carmen Stratton said.

Saddleback is 2-4 on the season and had a 0-1 record in Orange Empire Conference play.

The Gauchos will play at Cypress tonight at 6 p.m. and will host district rival Irvine Valley at 6 p.m. on Friday night.
